On Flickr, it seems that the ultimate and best thing to have happen to any one user is to appear on the Explore pages. The explore pages features all the best photo’s on Flickr, ordered by Interestingness – something which Flickr has made well known throughout their site. No one really knows what makes a particular photo interesting to the next, but its down to a few simple facts
- Amount of views (more = better)
- Amount of times its been favourite’d (more = better)
- Amount of comments (more = better)
- Amount of notes (more = better)
- Amount of groups added to (less = better)
And so forth, you get the idea.
So anyway, every so often I add one of my favourite photo’s to a few comment, rate-my-photo, score-my-photo type groups to get some idea on how good my photo is compared to other peoples opinion’s. I try and submit my photos to groups in which people are suppose to rate/score the photo as well as comment on why they scored it like they did, this way at least I get constructive criticism and comments.
After a while, as you may expect, you’re photo may well appear on the Explore pages, but you maybe asking yourself how the hell do I find it? Simple, use something called Flickr Scout. It’s an online free script to make life a whole load easier to find if your photos are in Explore at all, and where abouts they are.
And, my best to date so far is position #73, with this photo.
Which isn’t bad going I don’t think. Number 73 out of ALL the photo’s on Flickr! That’s cool. Of course, the position changes all the time, but using the Flickr Scout tool, you can easily bring up a history of the photo and its position by clicking on the small icon next to the position number.
Excellent, I am pleased!
