Whey, work has bought me one of these! Good times
However, I do have the task of setting up a LAMP environment on it whilst also continuing to do the days work which is more than plenty already, meaning I’m probably waking up at about 4.30am…
So, the question is - MAMP or XAMPP? Both are pre-built apps that should work-out-of-the-box in order to get an Apache, PHP, MySQL environment in place, but which is best? I’ve got a very much-so modified MAMP installed on my Macbook which works fine, but it has been hacked about a lot and I do remember staying up late a few nights trying to get the damn thing to work correctly!
From the install, I’m going to need PhpMyAdmin, .htaccess support, GD Image Library, Image Magik at the very least, to name a few.
Looking at the features, MAMP offers everything I need, so that’s my first choice, but then again XAMPP offers a similar section… We’ll see how it goes with MAMP first. Keep an eye on my Twitter updates throughout the day too!
